Cotton Lawn, Chambray, Wash n Wear or Royal Silk: A Fabric Guide for Boys Kurta Shalwar

Boy wearing a black embroidered self-textured cotton lawn kurta shalwar by Harisan Wear

The fabric decides how a kurta shalwar feels at two in the afternoon, how it looks after a car ride and how much ironing it needs. Every Harisan Wear product page states its fabric in the details list. This guide explains the four names you will see there.

Cotton lawn

Cotton lawn is the lightweight cotton most Pakistani families already know from summer clothes. We use it for plain and embroidered kameez shalwar, and our product pages describe these pieces as comfortable and breathable for summer wear. Examples are the White Embroidered Kameez Shalwar and the Black Plain Kameez Shalwar. One design, the Black Embroidered Kurta Shalwar, uses a self-textured cotton lawn.

Cotton lawn chambray

Chambray gives lawn a slightly textured, two-tone look, so solid colours appear richer. Many of our embroidered Eid pieces use it, including the Steel Blue and Brown embroidered sets.

Wash n wear

Wash n wear is the name used in Pakistan for suiting fabric that holds its shape and is chosen for a crisp, pressed look. We use it for classic plain sets such as the White Kurta Shalwar and for embroidered designs such as the Pearl Grey Embroidered Kurta Shalwar.

Royal Silk

Royal Silk is the fabric of the kurta and shalwar in our 3 piece waistcoat suits. It is the dressiest of the four and is paired with an embroidered waistcoat for weddings and formal events.

Care differs by fabric

Kurta shalwar and waistcoat suits do not have the same washing instructions. Read how to wash and care for boys kurta shalwar before the first wash, and see plain vs embroidered if you are deciding between styles.
